The flu

I've got the flu. It's probably been 10 years since I've had the flu. I've been rudely reminded of how not fun it is.

Our friend

Jody referring to Matt Mikalatos (one of our regional directors) after reading his most recent blog entry.

"Matt is a freak...
I mean, he's great...
but he's still a freak"

I laughed and then promised to post that comment on my blog.

the bachelor

We were startled last night to look up at the tv and see one of our dear friends on the show "The Bachelor". Incessent laughter and phone calling ensued.

Our friend used to work in the Whitehouse...as in thee Whitehouse! She also sang in our wedding. Now she's a lawyer in D.C. She didn't get a rose to make it past the first night, thank goodness...she's way to good for that show.

Mexico City

I got back from Mexico City yesterday. Jody and Jenna (both are sick) got back from Oregon on saturday. It always feels good to come home.

Mexico city was great. Our students from MSU were great.

Things we did:
-We pioneered new ministries on a bunch of campuses
-4 of our students led people to Christ.
-We ate a lot of tacos
-We saw some ancient Aztec pyramids
-Had a day of service in the city...I helped out at a boys home.
-rode the Mexico City subway
-had a public bus we were riding break down and then waited on the side of the road for a ride
-ate some more tacos...one of which was cow tongue and mabye a little brain
-went to the zoo
-got lost a couple of times
-prayed for, dreamed about and trusted the Lord for transformation of the entire city of 28 million people

Spring Break is here!

Students are heading out of town this week. I'm headed to Mexico City with a group of students for a spring break conference. We're driving to Salt Lake City this afternoon and flying out in the morning. Jody and Jenna are flying to Oregon to visit Jody's parents.

Pray for safe travel for all of us!

San Diego

We had a great time in San Diego this past weekend for my sisters wedding. We stayed right on the beach. Jenna did reasonably well with all the travel and late bedtimes. We got to see almost all of our family and got to meet our new Scottish family. Because you read this blog....Congratulations Paul and Megan! Have fun in Mexico!

And now we're home and it's snowing.

quote of the weekend

We've been at my sister's wedding in San Diego this weekend.

My Mom: "Guess we should go pick up your Grandma's ashes from the storage unit in El Cajon."

Sidenote -- My Grandma passed away almost 2 1/2 years ago.

Mexico City

I'm taking a group of students to Mexico City for spring break to help with what Campus Crusade is calling "City-focus" there. You can read more about it here. Basically we'll be trusting the Lord to start a student ministry on one of the 400 campuses in Mexico City, which just happens to be the 2nd largest city in the world. We'll also be serving in an orphanage for part of the time. There are more college students in Mexico City than there are people in the state of Montana. The vision: To launch missional Christ-centered communities on every one of these 400 campuses so that each of the one million students in Mexico City will know someone who truly follows Jesus.

We're taking a great group of students and it should stretch them as they see how God can use them internationally.

Interestingly, more people in the world now live in urban settings than rural. This is starting to have an effect on how we do ministry.

Going Global

This is the flight board from Frankfurt airport. The letters and numbers flip and chatter in kind of an old school way (forget those digital monitors...old school IS new school).

I love to stand in front of it and imagine what it's like in all the places listed. It makes the world seem very small and the possability of the Great Comission (Matthew 28:18-20) being fulfilled seem very real.

Go.
